Default KJ CRD Diesel Owners FAQ

Hi all, I've recently noticed some oil vapour on the side of the turbo housing. It's not a huge amount but nonetheless it will only get worse over time. Any suggestions? Leave it alone for now or what?

Make sure that the timing belt tensioner and the idler pulleys (2) are changed at the same time. On a 2005, which is now 8 years old i'd also replace the water pump which is driven by the timing belt and is easier to do when the belt is changed. Make sure the job is done by someone that knows what they are doing with VM diesels.
Hmm, my 2006 has around 70k kms and as far as I know is on the original belt... It has been serviced on time since new, although not at a jeep service centre for the last few years - how would I know if it had been changed?

Lol, normally yes but for the last few years it's been serviced by my father in law and he's notorious for not charging properly (usually gives my wife a bill for some token amount, like $100). I just checked with him as well, definitely hasn't done it - says it doesn't need it until 100k kms, which come to think of it is what DarrenR said. I actually hadn't heard of the 5 year thing, which is why I ask. Sadly got bigger problems with it now anyway.

And so here's what can happen when you ask your wife if she can fill up the Jeep while she's out picking up the kids. Really wish I didn't park behind her car when I got home...

Huge thanks to DarrenR, who not only let me have the car towed to him after hours and pushed it in, but even shouted me a drink while I waited for a lift. Great service as always

Awesome effort also to the Good Samaritan that pushed her put of the middle of a very busy intersection in peak hour.

Fingers crossed no damage, she made it about 10m out of the service station, heard some knocking underneath (like she'd run over something) before it conked out.
