dunno how much you know, its pretty difficult & frustrating to fix these issues

the example that had a crook computer sat for 1yr at a big auto elec shop b4 my mate took it away for nothing.

Even though he is a vastly experienced auto tech, he just substituted an ECU from another wreck he has..not by testing.

using the FSM, and Youtubes, it is possible to further troubleshoot this issue

The ECU and sensors have a 5V signal and if this is shorted or lost with a bad wire, nothing much will work.

The ECU provides earth for the ignition system, cant remember what voltage it runs at, probably not 5v

Using backprobes or safety pins, its possible to check for voltages

only use a multimeter, not a test light

On my XJs I have encountered internally bad wires

does the fuel pump audibly run for 2-3 secs when ignition is turned on ??

ivs also sen some of the big electrical plugs under the driver's side kick panel all melted and fused together.....yuck.
IIRC there are 5v 8v and 12v circuits coming out of the pcm.

intermittent faults are the worst.

Problem solved.

There were two problems, cps and coil lead.

Reading this thread I have seen that we have experienced people here. And I thank all posters. Reading what has been said here on and other forums and youtube the same repetitive q&a's come first and then more knowledgeable answers come there after.

The cps is probable cause number one. And I being a novice seeing cranking and no ignition, started with dizzie, coil and the whole set of new ignition system. But not the cps because I did not know it was there.

Also checked fuel pressure and was poor. With a new pump and filter pressure is great but no ignition. Re reading this thread cps was mention a lot so looked it up and bought one. Problem solved. Could of done that first and saved, but hey, some things should be up graded anyway right? so win win I suppose.

Then repeated no spark. Must be electrics, and off to the auto electrician I went. ( how much an hour?( fvk me)).

I see him tomorrow, says it was a disconnecting lead from the ignition coil. All works again.

Well Thanks again to all. On the road again.

Thanks mate.

Just for clarification after talking with the auto electrician, he found where the cam sensor was plugged in, that connection had a loose wire, probably worked loose with all the work done, not surprising for 20+years old.

Again thanks to everyone.
