I got a blank with a transponder for about $30 off eBay. Programming will cost a bit, haven't managed to find anyone apart from a dealer that will do it. Apparently "any locksmith with the stuff" will do it. None that I have asked will! "too hard" "jeeps are funny" etc

Prety much the right price maybe a litle bit less at locksmits that can program it.
I had a chipless key cut by the locksmith and from the old key I removed the chip
by splicing the rubber section along the edges and reglued the all lot in the new key using sikaflex marine grade sillicon ( this is the stongest sillicon bond I ever seen ).
Let it dry in a vice for 24hrs (more if it is cold wheter) . That was the cheapest way for me anyway.
Cheers,
Andrei

Mrminit - they are the shopping Center dudes. They cloned a key for me before and it's big n ugly but works just fine. Total cost was $160. I had gone to a separate Mrminit earlier and he quoted me $120 but would have had to wait for the key blank to arrive. I posted a thread on here etc with the detail at the time. Cheers.

Hi found out last night all is not lost. I have spoken to a locksmith and he said they can cut a key and as long as the chip is near the ignition it will be fine. Plan is to either do as suggested, thanks amlav or grind down the end of the key a bit and arildite the chip end onto the end of the new one. It will mean a bit long a key but it will only be an emergency one in any case. I could possibly solder it as there is a brass stub on the broken key, but am concerned about melting the chip. I must say I was glad when I arrived home late last night to find I did not throw out the plastic stub as I first thought.

Regards A
