The weigh of the bigger awnings is a bit much as I only have the roof rails and 30kg off one end wouldn't be good at all I imagine.....
Proper big sand pegs at 45 degrees have a pull-out weight of around 45kg.
Decent screw in pegs can have up to like 100kg in sand, but make sure you use them vertically.

So they will hold better than sandbags, unless you have really really big sand bags but in reality it only matters if it is quite windy.

I barely ever use pegs at all on my single side awning, don't think I've ever used ropes for it, just peg in each leg.

You must have sedate breezes down your way up here around Fraser Island you would be pretty brave not to peg it down, super still then its a gale and the woolies bag 20kgs of sand doesn't move and far more economical .... proven product for a few decades now.

Approximately 25kgs, packs away really small, is not permanently fitted to the vehicle, gives you more space, allows you to be able to open the tailgate and is about a third of the cost..

Yep, I've bought one. Has sat in the garage as I've missed all recent trips, can't wait to use it though!
Still have the rear awning on the side which is handy for quick stops or just to keep the rain off the opening of the swag, as it sucks getting up for a pee and rain getting in the swag 😉

New here but hopes this helps. Ive the chief rails and full rack. And went with a bushwakka 270 awning. Its a free standing awning. (comes with one pole that sits up on support arm and swings down when you want. The rear wont open with it fully open. But it has a rope with a ratcheting tensioner. Takes about 10 seconds to undo and open enuff to access the back. Ive opened and closed it in pretty hectic wind up bribie and even without the leg was very solid.
Apologies for the sideways image i dont know how to fix it hahaha.
