Default Road VS Mud in Snow

I'm heading up to the snow in July and I am looking for some advice on tyres. I have a wg with a set of mudies on at the moment, 'they are bad enough on the road' would it be best to throw a set of road tyres on be for I go?

A good set of ATs would be a better option than road oriented tyres, I've been very happy with my Yokohama Geolander AT/S tyres FWIW.

A tyre with good grip on wet roads is a must have in my view. Some mud and road tyres fit into that category, not all though.

From memory if you go to a Victorian fired you need to carry chains.

I had Cooper S double T's they were great on dry or wet roads, sand, mud and now worries on snow either.

Couple of questions:
1. what muddies do you have?
2. Which mountain are you going to?
3. Do you plan on doing any off road snow wheeling?

Personally; with the limited information so far I would throw some road tyres on, as you have a lot of black top driving first up and as already mentioned; it is compulsory to carry snow chains an all Vic mountains in the winter regardless of whether you need them or not.

If you get ice that's where they're not so great.
