Default Diesel Help!

Hi Guys.

Before I start I’ve had a quick look through the forum and haven’t been able to find an accurate answer.

I have a 2000 Diesel that I’ve had for about two years, It has fairly high K’s (300k) but it has been well looked after with regular/frequent oil changes.

A few days ago I was driving home from work normally until all of a sudden the front end abruptly felt like it was going to shake itself apart and I had lost almost all power.

I pulled over, shut it down and had a quick look under the bonnet but couldn’t find anything out of the ordinary(everything was plugged in, no massive oil puke), however I took the oil filler cap off and it felt like it had more than the usual amount of blow-by (filler cap wouldn't stay on-top of the filler neck)

Started it back up (no difficulty in doing so) but it sounded/felt it was only running on 3 cylinders and was puking white smoke (unburnt diesel?) out the back.

Had a go at clearing its throat, but it only seemed to increase the volume of white crap out the back; as well as leaving remnants of black soot on the ground under the exhaust.

NRMA'd it home on the back of a flat bed to deal with it another day.

Any help steering me in the general direction would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi there,

I just bought another diesel XJ with the same symptoms as you describe. Shaking & blowing white smoke. Unburnt diesel & coolant.
I pulled mine apart & discovered 1 x cracked head out of 4.
I was wishing it was a head gasket but it wasn't.

I hope yours is just a gasket.

I am just waiting for the time to put her back together.

Regards

Eddy
