Default Do you reckon Jeep will still be in Oz in 5 years?

We’ve all seen FCA repeatedly shit in their own bed for a number of years now...

Sales have tanked, they seem to have a special knack for burning customers, and some of their pricing decisions - particularly when the Renegade was released and now the Wrangler - are so ‘optimistic’ that you have to question FCA’s understanding of their target markets.

In a booming market they managed to destroy their own reputation and sales, and they’ve reduced themselves to ‘niche brand’ sales levels. Now we’re heading into a period where new car sales generally are tipped to struggle - so not a great time to be trying to rebuild a brand.

It’s getting hard to see a silver lining for the brand in this country... it’s hard to imagine there’s not a management team somewhere in FCA HQ wondering if fixing Oz is worth the effort...

Curious to know what others think the future holds for Jeep in this country?

As much as I love my jeep, I'm afraid I won't be buying another one in the next 2 years. I can't justify to pay for a sport 2 doors as much as you would for a double cab Japanese ute. They need to really sharpen their pencil in the next 2 years!!

I think they will be, especially with the utes coming in the next few years.

The utes will sell but I can't see anyone else other than a diehard Wrangler fan spending that kind of money on one for the expected price.

Why would you when you can buy a Merc ute for what we believe Jeep are going to sell them for.

I'll keep my JKU for at least another 2 years and then it will more than likely sold to buy another later model JKU.

I like the JL interior but it's not worth what they are asking for if their pricing doesn't drop in the next couple of years.

Hard to say.
I like new things that JL has. But until they start doing something more realistic in terms of pricing, just like what they finally did for Renegade, I won't even consider moving on to JL.
Most likely I'll stick with my JKU for much longer.
As Nanook said, for the same price, I'll opt for a Merc ute with Merc engine.

They will always have a market here despite the Japanese influence and the FCA customer service issues. Whether FCA will exist in its current form both here and overseas is debatable. The JEEP brand will live on regardless and it is the major source of revenue for FCA right now.

The question is, are Jeep products crap?

My experience says no. Maybe I have owned the right cars at the right time. There are a lot of disgruntled Ranger, Colorado, HiLux owners etc online.

I won't be buying a Jeep for a long time because I have done my bit for Jeep purchasing and owning two vehicles.

My 23 year old 4.0L XJ will go on for a few more years at only 350,000 km (still just a baby), and my 2016 3.6L JKU is a recent acquisition, proven, and built like a tank. My JKU had the right package that I was looking for in a new Wrangler and the price was exactly what I wanted to pay.

The JLU looks like a very nice ride on the pavement if we believe the reviewers, but it is still in its infancy and carries the useless stop/start function that has to be continually disabled. It is also expected to have a price that may turn away prospective new owners who may want to dabble in an unfamiliar brand.
