Default Commander crosses the Simpson

Just got back from a 17 day, 6 800 km expedition from Brissie across the Simpson, around Central Oz (down the Finke through Boggy Hole), to Coober Pedy, across to William Creek, to Lyndhurst, up the Strezlecki to Cameron Corner, up the Bore track to Innamincka and then back to Brissie.
Towing a Podtrailer.
Of the 5 vehicles in the expedition (none other towing a trailer), the Commander was the only 4WD that NEVER got stuck on a sand dune.
We were in the middle of a huge sand storm which ranged from Broken Hill to the Alice, including 140 kph winds. Visibility down to 50 m; sand hiding the tracks...and then the thunderstorms and rain followed.
Few piccies follow. These show the sand storm, sand got into everything, then the thunderstorms (some may recognise the 'Lone gum tree').

Default More piccies of the Simspon crossing

More piccies.
Tyre pressure got a bit low after temps went from unbelievably hot during sandstorm to quite low after thunderstorm, and a big bump going up a dune dented the alloy rim and deflated the tyre.
The newspaper report from the Alice.
Some photos of the Podtrailer after its spring broke between Purni bore and Dalhousie. Back in 1980, a similar thing happened on SWB Cruiser and we got by with a piece of good old-fashioned Aussie hardwood (natural cut) and fencing wire...I never go anywhere without fencing wire, electrical ties, a large box of misc bolts and nuts, duct and electrical tape...
