Default Need New Battery Help! 03 TJ

Morning All,

I was cleaning out the TJ yesterday - accidentally turned on the KC’s and now the battery is mashed. I drove to Geelong last night to see a mate thinking that it may come back to life (nope) didn’t think the head lights would have much affect on the charge - I think I’ve just drained it too hard :/

Can anyone suggest a battery? That I can pick up (retail) today in Melbourne?

I know sweet FA about batteries so any help would be awesome! So far I’ve found a Century DIN53RMF at super cheap - but I’ve also read about Optima Yellow top? D34/78 does anything need to be modified to fit this in?

Thanks Loads

get a CENTURY N370X from Supercheap, they were having a special on them this weekend I think.

or DEKA 9A78DT

Optima D34/78

Odyssey PC1500

the above are AGM long lasting but cost a hell of a lot more. optimas have variable quality, the DEKA is great from my own experience in an another vehicle, the odyssey would last 12 years. if you go for one of these check the date on them to make sure the vendor hasnt had them in storage for years

I've had a century in my Wrangler for the past 4 years and still cranks good and another century in a work Hilux for over 5 years

whatever you do, dont get a budget battery. the last one I bought lasted 13 months and was stuffed

I had an Optima in mine. I left the DVD on playing music videos for 24 hours after forgetting about it. The old TJ started up first go.

They are an expensive battery though and are probably only worth it if you are running a winch or fridge off the starter battery.

Take it for a 1/2 hr drive then leave it sit for 1/2 hr. If it dont start then you have a problem. Just remember just because it wont start doesnt mean the battery is bad. If you have a volt meter on the dash, what voltage does it show when running, just before starting & while cranking? This will tell you if its the battery or some thing else.
