Was a while absent due to additional work I had to do on my Jeep. I finally installed my 4 inch lift kit (took a bit longer as usual).
I have now changed every single component on my front suspension but the wobbly wheel did not disappear.
I really could not believe it since what ever I did nothing changed. Even the additional steering damper did not at least soften the wobble.
There are only 2 parts which I have not touched so far: the steering box and the u-joint axle.
And then I had an epiphany: I recalled that the u-joint does get a bit stuck once you bend it too much. Since this was the only moving part which is actually decoupled from the suspension I asked some JK driver about this symptom. And voila they confirmed. It has even a name: crow hopping. However this is actually only one part of the story. The other is that if the opposite side does not change in the exact angle the other way around this gets even worse.
It is perfectly explained here:

It looks like my axle are not really syncron anymore. And this is causing the axle to turn in an ellipse rather than a circle. That's exactly what I have. So for the last 6 month I was chasing a phantom. Funny things is that I thought of this 4 months ago and I ordered a replacement joint for the axle. However I am not sure if this is really something I need to change since the joints still look fine. I will don't anyway just in case. What I need to do though is to do an alignment of the wheels that will bring at least back some syncron wheel turning.
I will need to check with Iron Rock Offroad what else I can do to get rid of it or if there is a particular setting required to align the wheels.
It also make sense that none of you experienced the same since you all may have a CV axle instead and this phenomenon will not show up on your cars.
So it really means all the work was not really do any good. However, I will definitely not suffer from death wobble, all the rust is gone or covered up, the diffs are all clean, and I have new bushings all around. So I still see it as a positive experience and I now know and understand the suspension in the Jeep.
