Agreed...If you do go air then I'd recommend the LLAMS Ride Height Controller.. Overrides the signal to auto lower and maintains ride height ..In extreme it can raise higher than OR2..Over-height is not recommended though so only in extreme cases otherwise if you're into doing what the WK2 is good at rather than a tow tractor then the LLAMS would be a good addition..I'm doing it after my desert trip..Should have done it before (wiser now) but off to the Cape again in Oct so I will fit it for the OTT...Big bucks extra to go for the Trailhawk or Overland just to get air suspension since I believe it is not being offered as an option for the Laredo or Limited..BTW if I were to go from the Jeep camp (not likely but maybe if no diesel Jeep after 2022) then I'd seriously look at a Ford Everest

I have compared directly, the rear locker makes a huge difference, especially given the lack of wheel travel after you lift a WK2.

just picked up my new (1800k demo) velvet red trailhawk GC but was looking at going a laredo with full off road package in graphite crystal (with the 8.4 uconnect) and was told id need to order it and be bout 5 months at around the 67.5k mark and they did the trail for 70 flat with h/d tow bar weather shields and bonnet/headlamp protectors

I came from the ford camp and other than getting the 5 cylinder 3.2 diesel 6 speed everest trend the new option will be a 2ltr twin turbo 4 cylinder 10 speed auto at 66k

Mate had a WK2 Laredo with air suspension but no Quadra-Drive only BTC and he did everything I did with the WK2 Trailhawk so rear locker made no noticeable difference desert driving...2 Wranglers with me did ok without...Pity though Quadra Drive is now only on the top end models which ..apart for some like me...mostly only tow on the black top so hardly need a top class rear locker.. Seems a waste of what is considered one of the best 4x4 lockers on the market now not an option on Laredos and Limited where they are more likely to excel crawling the rough stuff...Jeep do some strange marketing decisions. Often wonder what their ''Trail Rated'' badge really means.

Yeah, you won't see the difference on sand.
As I understand it, the challenge with desert is more the remoteness than the off-road part.

Yep that part to...It can kill but then there is something like1300 dunes & the ruts & dips...Could be considered extreme without too much imagination...East to West is very steep but I'd hate to do West to East...It is rough on the West side..really rough so slowly down...certainly checks out the suspension..Mates Unlimited 4 door Wrangler did 4 TJM shocks..completely stuffed..Fitted OMEs in Alice..
