That was enough to make me go
back to the bush and backtrack my movements
By the third property and feeling like a waste of
time the property owner had found them.
What a releif.

Great to hear its found Mike !
If its your only fob & you need it to turn off the immobilizer, bets keep it in the car on a chain. I know it defeats the purpose but a car you cant drive is as good as stolen.

what I do with most of my cars is get a 3rd key/s cut, wrap in plastic and black tape it to part of suspension. It would be very difficult for anyone to find

That way, if you ever lose your keys when out, you are ok

especially helpful if you are far away from home..ie out bush..no NRMA to save yr skinny ass

Hey mate,
Thx
Is there a way to disable the immobilizer? That would be my preference for sure but have not been able to find out how to. Pulled possible fuses, no luck. I have been told its all connected to the main ecu?
I have just posted an add looking for a used key fob, local key cutter/programmer said he can wipe a used key fob and reprogram it to match.

there is one way that works on some cars, not sure on an XJ , but probably

get a duplicate chip scanned

glue the chip near the ignition barrell, in the position it scans at start

see Youtube

one of the major reasons I went for '96, no immobiliser, can also just swap a failed engine computer

I do exactly that on outback travels (preupdate). Have made up a spare key and thread wire through the eye and tie it on an essential slab of metal away from prying eyes. I have also worn it around my neck in a long shoe lace. One thing about the XJ central locking is that only you can accidentally lock yourself out (has happened to me twice)... unlike the smartlock on E series Falcons.... which autonomously lock out their owners (because they're so smart):

"open the pod bay doors please HAL (effect Sensor)"

"I'm sorry Dave.... I can't do that... you can't call road service to unlock me because you left your mobile inside"....
