The old 80's series cruiser with a million miles on it certainly didn't have any issues on any of the tracks like i did with nothing more than a saggy 2 inch lift.
At one stage we noticed it was losing coolant through a cracked heater tap, bypassed it by joining the hoses with a 12mm deep socket and it was away again. The jeep would have shutdown and blazed warning chimes at me before getting towed away in a similar situation.
If it didn't tow my van so well i would think about replacing it but i guess i might just resign myself to mainly beach trips where it excels instead of rutted hilly tracks. I wonder if there are any jeep techs that can explain why it shuts down in that situation, it wouldnt be so bad if it just cut the power back but once it stalls it can be quite dangerous to control the car before getting it restarted
