2 day TLCC Willowglen 4x4 comp at Tarago, NSW (about 1.5 hrs from Canberra)
Over again - half fun / half shid (eg waiting 4 hours for a 5 min drive)
I competed with team BAS (aka COR4x4) with the 3 zooks of Jai, Hamish and Red.
Red's Vit lasted one track then popped a fuel pump putting him out for the rest of the weekend which was a bummer.
Jai had plenty of good drives is his mostly tube sierra and pipped us by about 50 pts for top of our team.
Hame was sporting new 35's and stock cvs so was a bit careful in his Vit and stalled a bit probably not used to the bigger meats.
The Goatsack (only jp int he comp!) scored a bashed rear disc lever mashing the brakes on helping us NOT get out of the tyre pit (farging thing). A quick realignment with the hammer allowed the brakes to turn off afterwards. We had couple of really lame tracks (10pts on the fckin logs - h8 those things!) and the mud.
Buddha helped guide me into obstacles and cryed when I drove too fast as usual
In contrast to our first and best Saturday was 95pts and another Sunday we got to the 95 pts marker but with mystery penalties only got 76pts..
They closed the tracks early Saturday for no apparent reason at 5pm so Jai and I had to take averages on our tracks after waiting for frikken hours.
Was pizzing down on/off saturday so come dinner a bunch of us went to Tarago pub for beers and tbones by the fire in the dry.. mmmmm thats camping !
Mud run which is normally a bunch of fun with plenty of rev limiter fizzed, we were about 10th last car (96 starters) to start so found the 38" holes nicely left by plenty of others at about 10pts marker. ba-bahhh
Think our total all up was about 300pts or so (800pts is a perfect score over all 8 tracks)
After all was done we got about 2-3km on the tar out the enterance on the way home and the frikken rewelded (and rechecked !) panhard diff mount snapped again.
So I got to sit with my lovely wife by the side of the road watching the sunset and waiting for Noltehead in his stinky 130 Landy and trailer to towour asses home. Was quite pleasant actually
A bit of a anti-climax really for the 10 year comp retirement of the goatsack to allow the v2 rocket rally project to get going.
other highlights :
* 15 storey high v8 bronco with a tierod lower than a stock tJ - guess what he tore off ?
* couple of rollover/flops nothing too dramatic
* Plenty of diff noises and busted CVs from those gamer than I on the logs.
* Awesome run by a chick in a near-stocker zook in the mud crawling around the giant crevasses to get 70 pts to the adoration of the crowd.
* Clean looking Isuzu MU with solid axle conversion..unfortunately it had coilsprings slinkier as Pete K's TJ used to be. This thing leaned even on the flat and wobbled like jelly when moving lol
some pics of our team's antics follow..
