Piece of Shit 99 I changed the gasket then it wouldn't idle and needed pedal to start No Miss though I swapped another IAC in and starts and idles perfectly OK a Bad IAC and the leaking gasket was keeping it idling went for a cruise around town a slight flutter when you hold the throttle in one position? I went out on the highway and it went well for a bit then it all fell apart
surging and a non responsive throttle like it is flooding ? A sad trip home to a rough idle more black smoke than a diesel on heat coming out the exhaust?
I think I am going to put the stock injectors back in check the sm pipe from the map sensor I have changed the coolant temp sensor ignition and plugs are newish I really cant think of anything that is doing this
It seems to go to shit when it gets to temp?

Try pour cold water on Crank angle sensor when its running like shit, I know its hard on XJ, not much room, or just replace it

it is a new crank sensor But I think I might be on to something here When I changed the gasket I noticed the butterfly would not snap shut it closes but slows down for the last bit? same if you rev it the revs come down slow I looked at the throttle body and there is in and out up and down and side to side play in fact it clicks the butterfly shaft is worn and letting air in more when it is hot and expanded I checked the 96 and it has no movement
Worn or Bad throttle body letting air in when warm thus over fueling ?
Sounds interesting to me

Exactly right it is rooted I just got a throttle body for $50 and $20 postage from a dude on the FB grout XJ Freaks Australia 4 Liter So I will give that a whirl I know I could swap with the 96 for a test but I would have to change all the sensors over and dont want to really disturb the 96 LOL for $70 I will throw the dice It has at least 1 or 2 mm movement you can rebuild them though so I might give it a go and keep for a spare
