Ill lay $$ that its when the rpm is over 2.5k closer to 3k and you have a "lazy" gear change, it will simply drop below idle rpm and stall. I get the same thing if engine braking, perhaps that's what's inadvertently happening for you when downshifting (pushes the rpm up?) It happens for me 1 in 4 times, only when engine warm. If i blip the throttle between gear changes i never have any issues.. I can replicate the issue, stationary in the driveway.. More and more peoples chiming in seems to indicate its a common issue.. Interesting.

Injection pump is something i have read about apparently to fix the issue... Vux (OP) has the issue and a spare IP so keen to see if that had the desired result. I think my turbo needs to be rebuilt as oil seal knackered and it would not surprise me if that's a contributing factor..

Cheers.

It has been a while(cold winter) and the problem was finally fixed earlier this week. Changed the IP and problem fixed

A local shop did the job. The mechanic said it was a easy change with no major problems except some bolts that where difficult to get to. They had never done this job on a Jeep before but had the tools for adjusting the timing.

Hey Vux ,
Glad that your problem was finaly solved.
Would you be able to give us some details of the possible causes for the pump failure that you would be aware of.
Also if you have the details of (maybe) what was the problem with the pump.
Hope it would help others and myself if similar problems arise and how to prevent
them .
Cheers,
Andrei

Thanks Andrei. It was nice to finally get it fixed. I am not sure what the problem was with the IP. One thing that I think may have led to this failure can be that the previous owner drove around with a tuning box? If we want more information of what failed inside the pump I will have to send the IP to overhaul and that costs $$$

Did the previous owner run alternate fuels as well?

Great to hear your back on the road!
