Default WARNING! stay away from imported fuel

Im usually very fussy when it come to putting juice in any of my cars. Having owned a tempremental turbo subaru that only liked 98ron or better. My CJ5 has done heaps of trips around town running on 25/1 mower fuel. No worries.
But when it comes to these no name sevice stations selling imported fuels, especially with 10% Ethonal be very careful.

Yesterday when i was running very low on fuel and was stuck in town the closest servo was a Liberty and the only fuels it had for my petrol XJ was 10% ethonal. Being warey i only put $10 in to get me around for the arvo and i would fill up the next day at my regular servo. Caltex.
Anyway on my way home about 5klm down the road the jeep started to loose all power and run like a pig. Power would come back for a second and then it was strugling to drive and i couldnt get up over 40kph in an 80kph zone.

I limped 10klm up the road to my old work (servo/mechanic workshop) and spoke to my old boss about what was going on. He told me that the Liberty and the woolworth servo's mostly sell imprted fuels from india or indo or something. And is usually contaminated with moisture and the ethonal fuels mix wth the water better than regular fuel and cause loss of power bla bla bla

My solution to the problem was a bottle of Wynns injector clean that contains an agent that helps thin the moisture thin out so to speak and make's it able to burn with the fuel. So that and a full tank of good old aussie manufactured fuel and the XJ was back in the game. Hasnt missed a beat yet.

be very carefull of where you buy your gas.

I recently put some liberty fuel (that ethanol blend stuff..) in the jeep
I never thought about it.. but maybe thats why the idle was shyte and the throttle responce was upto shit.. cause since Ive filled it up with Caltex which is also WOOLWORTHS super duper premium fuel its been running nice.

The Woolworths near me is consistently 2-4cents cheaper than anyone else (for diesel), add to that the extra discount and I use it almost exclusively around town, car runs just as good as any other brand and economy is good.

Bought a tank of "blended biodiesel" in Broken Hill, found out afterwards (when paying) that it was 50% canola oil not the 10% I had presumed, never again - ran bad, no power, economy down by 20%. I was happy to consider "going green" but not after that experience. Never seen biodiesel / blend on sale in Vic.

i used to run BP all the time as anything else would be crap plus there is no Caltex near me. i tried that E10 and it actually ran well. Alot of the toyo, nissan 4wders recommended it to me cos they all run it and it was good. only put 10bucks in tho. never went back to it hehe after that tho BP is closer. but recently in the past month or 2 LPG at BP is bettin g worse and Worse! its as if they are watering it down or its just air. so i went to a liberty to LPG and all my power and fine tune came back. went back to BP yesterday and it seems better but still not the best. but at 44c p/liter im not complaining.

The Woolworths servo's using caltex fuels may be fine but im just going off what i was told. All i know is that the servo i filled up at yesterday was a liberty, run by indians, sold me shit fuel and im extremely pissed off about it. Why should a retailer be able to sell a product that is below standard. If it were my mum it had happened to she probably would have booked the car in for a service somewhere and been charged an arm and a leg. Im half tempted to go back to the same bowser and get a sample and have it tested. But it wont get me anywhere.

caltex fuel is refined at Kernel and they do a deal with the budget servo's to supply at a rate.
In Vic caltex fuels comes out of the Shell refinery at Geelong (they just add their own additives at a rate of 20 gallons per 1000 of petrol ULP)
If you doubt me go for a drive to Kernell and watch all the different company tankers entering and leaving the terminal

Forgot I run Liberty ULP + (10% ethanol) and my Xj runs better on that (95) than it does on Premium Unleaded, no power loss idles even smoother and pickup and towing power increase is very noticeable
