I bought a 136A Summit TrueSelect Alternator from Summit Racing a few years ago. Only cost $130 US.
Was a good upgrade for my 95. Would not fit my 95 until i swapped out the 95 mounting brackets for 96 brackets. Then it just popped straight in with no mods except a different size belt. Best thing ever, as my bearings were gone in my old alternator and was making a racket.

Cheers,
i did the same. great mod X2 if yr running e fans.

As the brushes and slip rings did not seem worn beyond spec anyway, and the PCM regulates, presumably that means the diodes in the rectifier have failed, a "dry" solder joint, or otherwise failed internal wiring.

I do not intend to proceed any further, I cant see that regulators are available as a separate spare part. Just a tip to others.
A reman unit may be the safest bet if you find yourself in this situation

got my R&R alternator time down to 30mins..beat that autolec !
(I am certain they would not charge less than 1hr labor)

tips...turn the mounting bolt around, ( so you dont have to remove electric fan)..grease the mounting flanges...makes lining up the mounting bolt easier
you can get rebuild kits on ebay bearings bushes and diode pack. about $50 IIRC.

Couldnt find any on Oz Ebay, only USA

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ALTERNAT....c100667.m2042

presumably the diodes are in the plastic "terminal block" ?

I may ask my autolec, whether the rectifier or other parts are available at a reasonable price, as bringing one in from the USA would be expensive

Definitely check the brushes for wear.
They can even stick if you drove through some good rain and let it sit for a few days. Crap deposits can glue up with moisture.
And check/clean terminals etc.
Run at idol and give them a good hit with compressed air now and dosent hurt I think.

follow up (flat battery in spare)

so despite new brushes, the one in my spare Limited doesnt charge, it buzzes like a wasp, and there was a parasitic draw of 160mA that dropped to 3mA when Alt main cable was disconnected

putting an ohmeter across + to case was not conclusive, with both good and bad alts giving similar readings

I suspect one diode may have gone short circuit, I think there is normally 6
