Hey Brick,
The battery isolator will do just that, isolate the starting battery from the auxiliary battery. This means that during normal driving both battery's will be connected and supplying power to all your assesories as well as getting charged by the cars alternator. When you stop to camp, the two batteries will remain connected until the battery voltage drops below about 12.5V then the isolator will separate them. This means that the main starting battery will not discharge anymore and will remain available to start the car the next day even if you run down the second battery completely. You will need to connect things like the fridge directly to the second battery though so it is available when the two are isolated.
