Default $500 and a stock cherokee sport whats mods first?

Well title says it all really, I know most of you guys have been there done that, so as it says, where should the first mods and or dollars go,
Recovery Points
Snorkel
Lift Kit (would a $500 kit really be worth while)
Bigger tyres ($500 might go half way to getting them, )
Proper bull bar/winch bar (loving wooders XJ classic winch bar, not sure how good it would look on a stock jeep though)
Rock sliders
Essential spare parts??

Anything you have done fairly cheap that has made a big improvement in any area, whether it be offroad, on road, fuel economy, whatever!!
I have Already made the quicks disconnects, though having alot of trouble getting the bottom bolt off for sway arm brackets so they are not installed yet, still working on that

Will only be a weekend offroader not used all that much, nor for hardcore offroading, so I am not going to spent a crazy amount of $$ on it, just want to make it look a little more aggressive and performance above stock!!
Let me kow you ideas,
Cheers

There are a few budget threads going about, however first off make sure she is all good, if you wanted to get it to a good point for stock, i would be putting the $500 toward making sure it has new oil + filter, new air cleaner, no leaking hoses, diff oil, spare CPS, replace O2 sensors.

Once thats done if you have any left over, new set of injectors as it seems to be the most bang for buck upgrade on here atm, then snorkle. I got tyres then recovers as mine goes, i have 30x9.5 r15's on my stock height classic atm and it only rubs full lock and goes ok, recovery points are necessary, but then so is recovery gear.

tl:dr If all the fluids are good and you have no leaks, and are handy enough with working on the car, a new set of injectors might be an idea, alongside a snorkle and recovery points

Easy... spend it on cooling system upgrades
  • Thermo fan (with manual override) this reduces weight and resistance on the crankshaft
  • Upgrade auxiliary transmission cooler (add a temperature sensor & gauge) think of it as an investment in piece of mind

I've also seen budget snorkel kits available online for $180 (plus postage), you may find alternatives you like better (like a DIY snorkel) depending on the state of your budget after the first suggestions...

Great starting points mate, I have just had a full service and been over it from top to toe and been running around in her for a month making sure all is ok, all seems ok, a small leak from the rocker cover which i will get on to with a new gasket, other than that, it seems great.
I have had a good look through the $100 mods thread to, lots of good ideas there as well.
Will look into the o2 sensors and spare cps.
Definately going to sell the front bumber bar then look into where to go. I have had a look through the injector upgrade threads too, most appear to recommend the older commadore injectors right??
I think i'd be happy to run 30's and stock height for now.....will wait till the current tyres have nothing left then upgrade, will need new tyres for rego next year anyway..
I am not mechanic but reasonably handy with the tools, learning primarily from this site LOL
Its a 1998 model for the info of others too...

I will do a quick search on here on the HOW TO instructions for these mods and see if I am up for the challenge, would it be hard to DIY??

Very few of us are mechanics, we just know the value of DIY. If you have a set of sockets and know how to swear then go for it. Stacks of advice here if you need it.

I am with you there, love the DIY approach, thats why i bought a jeep, i have a socket set or two and can swear with the best of them, the other day i even stopped and walked away before breaking something, was quite proud that i controlled myself that well as I was well beyond the swearing part at that point!!!!
My wife has seen very little of me at night since the jeep arrived, I seem to have spent of whole lot of time doing nothing on it so far, just checking the condition of everything....and enjoying every minute of it
