Exclamation 2007 2.8crd kj misfiring on cylinders 2&3

"]Help me please anybody. I have a 2007 kj 2.8crd. My lady was driving it up a steep incline when it started blowing smoke and stopped. Upon trying to start it it was noted the battery was dead. I had it towed to a local mechanic who replaced the battery stating it failed the test. Car still would not run. Removed the egr valve and cleaned it. Changed fuel filter. Cleaned turbo sensor. Car would then start but was misfiring and had no power. Injectors were removed and bench tested at an extremely high price $1200. Diesel specialist said they were fine. Mechanic could no longer help me unless I paid $15000 for a rebuild. Contacted Chrysler dealer in Brisbane Australia who said don't bother bringing it to us as we are only going to send it to KM diesel (diesel specialist) and said with the information I provided they would change the injectors @ $2400 each plus labour. So I sent it to the diesel specialist who promptly rang me back same day and said come pick up your car we don't want to know about it and we need workshop space. Totally lost at this point. I was given a referal by a friend to a Mechanic who specialises in these sort of things. Injectors were removed again and compression test was undertaken. In his words there is nothing mechanically wrong with this vehicle. %99 sure he said. The mechanic is well known for rebuilding these engines and was confident after hours of listening and blowing compressed air through the motor that all valves, pushrods etc were fine. Reckons we would be mad to take it apart. Totally lost now and starting to freak out. He promptly put me onto a well known auto electrician who after several visits assured me it isn't an electrical problem as there were no codes coming up and the injectors were getting power. He recommended another diesel specialist. Its like being on a roundabout. Contacted Chrysler Australia again and they said that the dealer at Albion in Brisbane is not reputable and I shouldn't use them. Help. What to do when the dealer isn't recommended by the Manafacturer. After spending over $5000 I still have a car I used to love that won't go. Main assumption by the rebuilder is that cylinders 2&3 are misfiring. Please anybody with any ideas help me. I will be in debted forever.[/

Settle down, we might be able to help you out if you can give us more information.

Let's start with some basic questions:

Did anyone of these mechanics actually check that the engine was properly timed? By that I mean locking the engine at the flywheel at 90 degress ATDC and ensuring the two cam locking holes all line up and can be locked in place? The reason for asking this is because there have been some cases of timing belt slip (or tooth jumping), its rare but could happen, especially if the belt tensioner let go.

That leads to the next question, has the timing belt ever been changed? It is suppose to be replaced at 100,000kms or five years of age. As the vehicle is now over five years of age it should have a new timing belt. If so, who did the work and when?

So how many kilometres does it have on it?
Are you the original owner?
Does it have a good service history?

Get back with some more information, and don't give up on it yet.

Do not remove an injector while the engine is running! That fuel rail is under very high pressure.

There is a special tool required to pull the injectors. You don't need to take that step just yet. Answer the questions I asked below and we can take the next step.

SUggest you move this thread to the KJ Forum where you will get more help.

Go to Footo Motor in Sumner Park and ask for Peter (owner, owns a jeep). Have a chat to him and describe your whole experience. He may be able to help or give you advice as he's been working on Jeeps for decades.

Post this in the KJ section as there are a few CRD gurus that live there like glend
