Default To Rubicon or not to Rubicon

Hi all, I posted 'Looking for a JK' earlier

I would appreciate any advice as to whether to purchase a Rubicon, or if a Sport will be sufficient?

I intend to use it as a weekend vehicle / runabout and get off road when time allows.

Thanks in advance, Craig

Depends on what you do / want from it.

If down the track you start getting "adventurous" and upgrading then the cost of upgrade to Rubi spec will make you wish you bought a Rubi first off.

On the other hand... if its just a daily with some occasional fun off roading then a Sport will be fine. Just be aware that MANY people start out in Column A and get the bug and move to Column B.

IMHO the Rubi is good value for what you get and straight out of the "box".... why F around with a Sport if you have end up having to spend more to get to the Rubi starting point.... that's assuming
you use requires "really capable".

Does it matter to you if you have a petrol or a Diesel model?
For me one of the highest priorities was a Diesel, so the Rubicon was automatically out.

Would I like what the Rubicon offers? Yes, I would.....
Do I need what the Rubicon offers? Probably not.

My Overland with some suspension mods has proven to be able to do things and go places I would not have expected.....they are far more capable, even the stock Sport/Overland set up, than people think.

A lot steeper and more rutted than it looks, and the base model drivetrain went up it without a problem.....

By the sounds of it a sport will do all that you need. As much as I would have loved a Rubicon, I bought a 2nd hand sport as it was a good deal.

It's not a daily driver but it spends its weekends either on the beach, towing my camper trailer or wheeling around the Watagans just around the corner from home. It's done everything I've asked of it and more.

As much as I get ribbed from mates and both my brother in laws for buying a Jeep, their Colorados and Rangers can't keep up on the beach and I'm always helping them out when bogged.

Interesting. I think differently.

If you can find one at the right price just get the Rubi.
If you thought you want to go to town on mods I'd start with the Sport so you are not spending money pulling off Rubicon equipment.

That said, outside of a Rubi, the Sport is possibly the best stock off road crawler in the country.

To Rubi

We've crawled up many hard and very hard trails around Sydney and Moab. The Rubi just ate them all up and no need to spend much more getting it up to awesomeness.

Really depends on how you offroad.
