Some people are getting ticketed for gas bottles outside on the bumper spare tyre carrier, whereas the sun will heat the bottle up on the roof rack

Dept of Env, NSW has a guidance on how to carry gas bottles in vehicles and what you got there is perfecto mate.

Well done
Cheers!... I should point out that I also investigated what size if any gas bottle could be kept inside a vehicle. I was advised by elgas that 2 x 9kg bottles can be transported inside a vehicle but should be minimised to refilling or travelling to a camp site and back only. They should always be removed and not left in the vehicle. Anything above the allowed quantity would need to be placed in a strong and secure container/box that is well ventilated to the outside. My bottle is only 2kg and would only travel to and from camp sites if I was to use it. When I get to a location it would be removed and place outside then connected to the gas stove (never left connected inside the vehicle). The other recommendation is to always test for leaks with dishwashing liquid and some water before ever travelling with a bottle. Now that I have an alcohol stove the whole gas thing isn't an issue anymore and I feel a little more comfortable travelling without a gas bottle!

Looks absolutely awesome, my homemade MDF drawer system just cringed!!
I always had a laugh at some people claiming you couldn't have LPG bottles in your car, there was thousands travelling around with Automotive Gas Cylinders in boots and cargo areas of Station Wagons, common sense should prevail with "barby" bottles, check for leaks prior to travel and don't have them connected while travelling...

Thanks Duke1962! Too be honest I would have been more than happy to have had any form of drawer system in the back but not prepared to pay a couple of G's for it. I was just fortunate enough to have a mate who's a boiler maker and was keen as mustard to try something a little different to what he normally does in terms of metal fabrication. We had a blast making it and there are probably a few little things he would change to make it even better next time. He's also one of those guy's not out to rip people off either and was happy to make just a little profit from it. I could have got it cheaper i.e. just pay for materials but he spent quite a bit of time making it so I gave him $900.

As for the gas bottle legalities I think there are a lot of misconceptions going around which is why I thought I had better get an experts advice.

Hence why I asked a professional from elgas. Given I still wasn't comfortable with carrying gas and having seen the picture of the van that exploded I decided to go with an Alcohol stove instead. I only ever carry a BBQ bottle in the car for the purpose of getting it filled or having my 9kg swapped with another from the servo.

How does the steel fare for noises over the corrugations? Is there a fair rattle coming from the back?

Havent tested over corrugations but if anything is going to rattle its only going to be items stored inside the draws which I'll minimise with tea towels or straps. The drawer systems itself is built like a tank and we used heavy duty sliders that dont rattle. I am heading to the West coast in June to do the the Gibb road etc so it will get a good run over corrugations then. As it is now I dont hear a tning coming from the back when going over bumps on the black top.
