Default advice on replacing waterpump

hi guys,

planning on replacing the waterpump myself, due to money issues etc. Got the pump and gasket, and since that will be the biggest project I have ever looked into, need some advice. got the FSM. Does the watepump need to be removed entirely for this? one bolt is blocked by the AC compressor, so do I need to remove the compressor too? this might be going a bit over my head I'm afraid..
How did you do yours?

dont know too much about the petrol but ive replaced 2 on my diesel, best to check out/ replace the fan clutch while doing it as a faulty fan clutch can be the root of a lot of overheating issues

You can move the compressor to get at the bolt, dont need to disconnect it at all. Just support it in place with some wire or something and avoid strain on the hardlines.

Water pump is an easy replace - hardest thing is removing the heater pipe out of the housing in my opinion.

It will make your job a lot easier if you remove the top plate above the radiator (10 x 10mm bolts), then you can tilt the rad forward to easily remove the shroud. Saves on bending the fins on the rad as well.

x2 about the heater pipe. Lacking a vice in an out of the way place I ran the tyre over the pump housing to hold it. Tight as buggery.

Had the viscous fan already on the list for this, figured the same.
Water inlet tube is only $8 at Rockauto. Might as well get a new one on my new pump (since its not the greatest looking tube anymore) and with a new belt (and T-housing gasket) get everything done in one session (that will take me a week hehe)

Instead of that pickup tube you can buy a 3/8" (i think it was 3/8") NPT male thread x 5/8" barbed fitting and use that instead of the pickup tube. Looks way nicer as well in my opinion.
