Gas peddle position on CDR

Gday everyone.

Just picked up a new 2010 TJ CDR unlimited auto on Friday. So far it's been great to drive around town. Planning on doing a camping trip near Dargo over the Xmas break so will get a chance to take it off road.

The only complaint I have is the Gas peddle is positioned much more closer to the firewall than the brake. I'm only 5'9 with stubbie legs and it's impossible to find a seat position that is completely comfortable.

If the seat is back, then the brake is perfect, but the gas peddle is too far. If I move the seat forward, the gas is great, but the break is too close.

Does anyone else find the same problem? If so, what have you done to improve it?

Yes.. Agreed totally. Has been covered a few times before now and I am yet to do something to mine for exactly same reason.

One I saw that I liked was making a wedge and placing under the accelerator assembly. The whole assembly is bolted to the firewall with 6mm (from memory) studs/nuts. Undo the nuts, unscrew the studs (which has been my stumbling point so far - havent been able to remove them), stick a wedge about 120 to 150mm long and 25 to 30mm thick at the base under the assembly then use new longer 6mm bolts through the assembly into the firewall.

Have also seen simpler ones such as a 2 to 3 inch block attached to the pedal surface... Not very sophisticated, but functional!

3) learn to live with or modify it! I found it a bit annoying but found a seat position which works for me. Remember the seat goes up and down as well as forwards and backwards. Steering wheel goes up and down too.

post#1504 on the link below shows what I did, I'm 5'5". When looking at the peddle from the driving position, you don't see anything under the pedal cover I screwed to the aluminium, which is why I put the covers on

I've got Ducks Disease too. I have the seat base forward and the back reclined. At least with the back reclined you don't need to do Yom's headrest mod. The trouble with the seat being so far forward is when off road I keep knocking my GPS power plug out of the power socket with my left knee. One "Theory" I've heard about these Yank ergonomics is that in the US they don't brake with their right foot. Being essentially an automatic culture they are taught to brake with the left. So there is no requirement to have the pedals at the same height. I don't know how true this is, probably just someone blowing warm wind up my bum. Nevertheless, you'll get used to it after a few months.
