Question
Gday peoples.
I'm having trouble finding adapters to suit the senders for my temp gauges. Being mechanical gauges the senders are quite large.
I was wanting to know, if anyone knows if the top heater hose would be a satisfactory place to read the engine temp from??
If the coolant flow circulates through top and bottom hoses all the time, I would assume yes.
Although if it only flows when the heater tap/valve is opened then, no, not so.
cheers

When the heater is off, there will be no water flowing so it will not give the correct temp. You need to find a plug in the head, preferably down the back of the head.

Not so easy, unfortunately. The sender in the head is, I think, 1/8 BSP. And used. The other is in the thermostat housing and it too is used. i'm currently using a upper radiator hose adapter but, it also is 1/8 BSP.
The nut on the thermocouple on these mechanical gauges, is I think 1/2 BSP. Plus the size of the thermocouple itself. 10mm dia x 40mm length.
Then the way it seals. The nut seals by sandwiching a flange on the thermocouple between the nut itself and the bottom of the port.
like this...
I didn't think this through very well, did I???

Isnt their a unused plug on the thermostat housing?
Or you could make an adapter to go in a welsh plug hole.

Why the mechanical guage, if you're unhappy with the factory guage you could use an aftermarket guage and either the factory sender or a replacement sender mounted in the factory spot.
That fitting looks like 1/4 bsp too...

What about soldering a bung into a radiator tank, preferably the 'hot' side I would think.

What exactly are you trying to do?
Why can't you just screw a nipple into the current thermostat housing and then put a tee on that?
You'd then have two ports to screw temperature gauges into.
