Default Auto Trans Problem

Hey everyone,
Was driving around today and went up into the hills. But I think my 2 week old JK is having auto trans problems. I've got it booked for its first service and the auto trans cooler is being installed on friday. But my problem is when i have the overdrive off and the cruise control on + activated, going down a hill the car knocks back into 2nd and uses the engine to break. Is this what the auto is meant to do? Also, after it did this 2 times I turned off the cruise control, tho the car seemed to have been knocked out of gear and the revs wouldnt go above 1500rpm. The car seemed to not want to move. While this happening, i heard some nasty noises coming from below the gear knob. I'll defiantly be making sure the Jeep guys go over the auto box. Does anybody have any ideas on what it could be??

Thanks for your info. I'm hoping nothing is wrong. But we'll see I guess. Hopefully if something is wrong, they find it on tuesday

As jeepdate says, the change down thing is normal when on cruise control.

Another quirk is when your using cruise control and knock o/d off before you hit a steep hill (so that it doesn't struggle half way up loosing speed and then change down too late). I find it drops 2 gears instead of one, then finds that it's over reving (as you expect from a diesel doing 110km/hr in 3rd!) and then shifts back to 4th, which is all it needed in the first place. Asked the garage and they say it's normal. Probably less of an issue with the petrol though as it'll have greater rev range.

Limiting the revs to 1500 and not pulling sounds like it's gone into a "limp mode" or something like that. Not heard of it happening before with the Wranglers but have heard of the same thing happening with auto boxes in other cars. The electronics detect some error and then basically close down to prevent you doing damage to the gear box. Might be soemthing else entirely but that's the only thing that springs to mind. If it is that then more often than not shutting it off and starting again will usually clear it.
