Default xj running tenperature.

Hi guys.

Im not sure whether I have a problem or not so I thought id come here for help.
My 95 xj runs at around 103-105ºc. I installed a 195ºf thermostat which I have read in posts that it is the correct one.
I have also read though that the secondary/air con fan is supposed to kick in at 105ºc and drop out at 95ºC.
My secondary fan never kicks in even up to 110ºc. The engine fan has been removed and a 16" thermo fan fitted. I purposely disconnected the main thermo fan and let the temp get up to just under the red line and the secondary fan still didnt kick in. Also the engine temp light didnt come on. I am going to put 12v to the fan tomorrow and see if it even works.

What I wanted to know is can the temp gauge get out of whack and show the incorrect reading?

Welcometo AJOR mate
Sounds like your secondary fan is a bit lazy! it should turn on with the air con if it works.
But yyou are right, it's not kicking in right...
It comes down to CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) your airflow, the stock electric fan draws 1500 CFM, your aftermarket fan should draw At Least! 3200 CFM to keep the jeep cool

Im not 100% certain but I dont think the main fan is the issue.
The engine sits around 105ºc at all times, highway driving, sitting in traffic and even low range 4wding.

There are two temp sensors, 1 is for the guage (at the rear of the head) the other is for the ECU (t/stat housing), the front ECU controls the fan's operation.
Does it turn on when the A/C is used?
Your temp issue could be a blockage could be the radiator either internally or externally or a blockage in the cooling path inside the engine.
Check the radiator visually for blockages in the airpath and give the entire system a good flush....

Thanks JJ ill run a temp gun over both sensors and see if there is a difference between the 2.
My a/c doesnt work I havent got around to fixing it since its winter. I wonder if the fan will still operate if the low pressure switch on the a/c detects no gas in the system.
