Default Now the water pump needs replacing. Arrgggghhh....

Gday all
This trip has been great but has tested my faith in my beloved Trailhawk.1st the sway bar then the alternator and now the water pump.,we are 10 weeks into our 12 month rip around Aus. Is $660 a good price for replacement, keeping in mind we are in Cairns.
To the Jeeps credit she is 10 years old and 270k on the clock pulling a 22 foot van at 3.2tonne.cant imagine driving anything else but these repairs are killing .my budget.

Those repair bills seem to be no more than what the average Jap 4wd would set you back for similar work...maybe a Jap thing could in fact cost more?

My listing shows Mopar 68211202AA or AB
Gates 43127BH
Dayco DP600
GMB 1204550

Natrad does GMB along with most auto shops.

Important the engine code is EXF on any listings.

or the mob below................

I would probably replace the idler pulleys and adjuster while I'm at it, common enough at Repco/Burson sort of thing.
If $600 is fitted thats pretty good but Cairns shouldn't be any dearer than most of the country.... Ive used GMB pumps before with no dramas, yank cats won't show earlier than 2014 usually but I gather the pump is good on all up to 2018.

The price isn't too bad. If you needed a new thermostat that replacement alone would cost more than $600.

Unfortunately components such as water pumps are ancillaries, in my book they're 'consumables' like tyres and hoses since many often need replacing more than once in the car's lifetime. My car is a similar age to yours (although less km) and I've replaced many of these common offenders too.

Jeeper6 is right, it's not a thing exclusive to Jeep, all the other brands suffer similarly.

It could be worse... my waterpump started intermittently weeping around 80k and I just had it replaced at 90k. I'm also stuck at work and not doing a trip around Oz

I've done an alternator already, and 2x aircon condensors. I'm getting the heebies about the oil cooler after reading too many posts on it. 270k is bloody awesome though, I might stick with the old girl yet

Yeah can vouch for that, A friend of the wife had her water pump replaced on her 2008 Toyota Aurion 3.5 v6 $2500 , had no choice at the time as it shit itself, and that wasnt @ a Toyota dealership, that was from one of those Mobile Lube Mobiles, done at her own driveway after the towies dropped it off, so it wasnt like she was stuck on the side of the road, she priced around and that was a good quote as she is pretty savvy
