Default Towing capaclty

Looking at buying a JK, preferable 2 door to tow our TVan. Something in my memory tells me that the towing capacity of 2 Door JK’s have changed a couple of times. Anybody got any clarity on this please.

You need to be more specific as to what model, year & transmission.

You can download this info from the net: type in "Jeep Wrangler Specifications" and you should find the info that you seek.

I think for the 07 2 door JK that you would have a maximum tow weight of about 1000kg (Rubicon) and half that for non-Rubicon. Even less if you have more than the driver in the vehicle.

I dont think that the 07 JK 2 door was intended to tow much in the way of weight, or for that matter, to carry much more than about 500kg (which includes all passengers). The 4 door for had more capacity to tow but not a lot more.

The T-Van weighs about 1500kg empty and a whole lot more with options and fridge and food and camping gear.

You might need to buy a bigger toy!!!

TVan about 1500 kg loaded!
Early JK 2 doors are listed at 1600 kg gross trailer, braked.
I am sure that they were downgraded with the update about 2012 until being upgraded several years later.
However everything I find on the net at the moment indicates that 2012 and 2013 are still 1600 gross trailer weight.

Despite the smarter engine nothing much else changed I think u will need something with more power for towing the TVan. I found that with a 1000kg small caravan, I need to use the gears a lot to keep up speed and momentum. Mine's a manual so I find myself working the gears quite a lot. The 3.8 is not kind on the hip pocket. Going 90km/hr I am lucky to average 5km/litre on the flat with a tail wind.

You need to also consider the weight of everything including people inside the vehicle as well.... only about a 500kg payload from memory. With 1500kg on the trailer I think you would be over limits.
