Dont know mate, wouldnt think so. If anything it might have something to do with import tax, but you only pay import tax on items over $1000

having an ABN or ACN, would make no difference at all, overseas freight is charges on either weight or m3 (whichever is greater) and all freight companies charge a minimum rate of 2m3.
If the costs of your goods is below AU$ 1000.00 there should be no duty.

Cheers

No, I think thats BS. Makes no difference.

I've heard it said that you have to keep your order under $1,000AUD to avoid additional costs - ie GST on imports- but twice now I've brought stuff in at $1500 - $1800 and neither times have faced additional costs.

Make sure you get different freight quotes, DON'T just accept the standard UPS Priority mail etc- its about 2-3 times the going rate.

If its a smallish item, USPS (US Postal Service) is often the cheapest, and generally takes 4-5 days to arrive to east coast of Oz.

Maybe they were suggesting you could claim the postage as a business expense...?

They just meant you can claim the GST portion charged by customs back in your BAS.
But if it doesn't get pegged by customs (combined shipping and item value under $1,000AU) then who cares?
