Default 285/75 R16 Mickey Thompson MTZ on Spare Tyre Carrier

Hi guys

Next week I am getting a set of Mickey Thompson MTZ's. 285/75 R16.

Was wondering if anybody else has these tyres fitted to the standard Jeep 16's and if it will fit ok on the spare tyre carrier. I am also planning to mount the antenna for the cb on the tyre carrier with a mount I purchased from Quadratec. Will I need to get a spacer? Looks like a tight fit. Had a quick look on the net for a spacer and they are $160 each, bit rich for my blood.

G'day mate,

I got 285 75 16 Cooper ST's on the standard 16's. This is about the biggest size you would want to go on these rims.

The spare fits but only just. The rubber stoppers on the back are pushed in a fair bit you could trim them down make it easier to get the spare on.

You could get a spacer for a lot cheaper than $160. For that price it would be designed for use on the drive wheels.

If you like Ill take a PIC looking down into the gap between the tyre carrier and tyre so you can sus out what will fit.

Cheers,

Dave

I've got my antenna mounted on the spare wheel. The fit was very tight - the antenna was pressed so hard up against the wheel that I couldn't get the cover on and it was digging into the rubber.

So, I got a couple of big, thick washers and put them on the top two bolts where the spare wheel mounts - that pushes the top out a couple of mm and solves the problem. Much cheaper than $160 but may not work if you get much wider tyres...

Not much room back there with the bigger rubbers, if the antenna mount sticks out a bit to the left / right it would be ok.
