TJ Boat sides anyone in Aus running them?

been googleing allot today whiles't looking at tj's with highlines 2" and 37"s etc.
i stumbled upon something called a boat side.

my question is as it cuts into your jeeps floor does it get in the way of driving it and are your feet cramped with the less available floor room?

there are bolt on boatside rocksliders available for TJ's that require no cutting. I can't see a boatside like the one pictured affecting foot space much, but might be a pain if you ever need to road worthy the car.

Genright make the ones Mika is talking about. The issue with them is they are really only sliders that curl underneath the rocker on an angle and dont provide the extra clearance you get from cutting.

As far as room inside goes, i dont think you cut into the foot well at all. if you do, its pretty minimal. Maybe you run a few bolts through or a backing plate but as far as i know you tie it into the frame rails underneath.

For the amount of time and effort in doing boatsides properly, the benefit is negligible unless you spend all day crawling in and around LARGE rocks, ie higher and larger than your floor area between the front and rear tyres.
Plan on doing tough truck or similar event, its a benefit. Otherwise, its probably not worth it. And yes, cops will have another reason to look twice at your rig.

Get a set of Warn or other sliders and bolt them on.

i never even thought about the legalities of it all i just assumed that being a forby with a chassis that u could modify the body without issue?

i have warn sliders currently

i was just thinking about it because the jeep will be going over a "HUGE" overhaul and thought while im there why not add that to my list also, might have to talk to my engineer friend (yes i have 1 of thoes now thank god!!) about the legal issues involved with body modifications

If you are going to boatside it, you may as well boat tail it too.
Fine in the US where no-one gives a rats about bodywork covering tyres, offsets and flares etc.
However, you'll still have to have your rubber covered, mudflaps etc, which will sort of look silly and negate the reason you boatside it. Unless maybe you sort out removable flares?

was thinking highline tube fenders with 3" perminet flare and a 4" detachable flare extension and have my boat side go out 3" for a side step and tape down to the bottom of the chassis completly covering the body mounts etc (bolt on cover)
