I believe it's important to lay it all out there, to not screw people around or waste their time. So, this is a list of the good and not so good about this JEEP.
THE GOOD:
I often get 450-500 kilometers from the 80 litre tank.
The there is no vibration in the vehicle.
Scan Guage has never picked up a single code.
The brakes are smooth and do not squeak.
The doors all close perfectly with no creaking.
The gas struts in the rear door window are great, still good resistance and FIRMLY hold window up.
The AIRCON blows nice cold air
The stereo does not have the rear sub, didn't get it from the previous owner? but the sound is crisp and clean with good bass (if you're into that stuff).
Steering is smooth and responsive.
ARB winch compatible Bull bar, number plate bracket with slight bend - will straighten out when I take the plate off.
Rubicon rock sliders, not a scratch.
IPF spot lights
A couple of things to note:
*Hard top damage from roof rack:
Rear drivers side corner, where the Garvin Roof Rack buffer pad sits, the owner had driven it around for a while with the opposite rear pad MISSING which has caused excess vibration and rubbing on the hard top, looks like it took a few good hits from the buffer and has left a small crack in that section of the roof which is sad. I haven't done anything about it as it appears only to be superficial and in the almost year I've owned it - has not presented an issue at all. Could probably just touch it up with a black paint pen and silicone it over.
As soon as I got the car, I contacted Garvin directly and they shipped out a new pad and it's been on ever since.
Due to work car park having a 1.9m roof, I only rarely put the roof rack on.
*Intermittent gear change squeak:
This has been happening since I got it in april last year so I assume it's a JK thing?
The clutch grips fine, the transmission is smooth, however there can be a slight chirp from time to time? Not a slipping, grinding horrible squeel - JUST a split second chirp. Never bothered me, I've heard it on a mates JK also and did some reading about it seems common?
I considered putting a stage 2 clutch in there but it's not slipping yet and drives perfectly so it's not ready for anyt of that as far as I'm concerned.... If it's not broken, don't fix it.
*Front Left Fender:
The passanger side front fender, droops down slightly rubbing on the ARB bar, that was also something that I picked it up with. Some of the small plastic clips have broken in the fender and a small bolt has been put in place to keep things in check. Not an issue, cosmetic but worth a look at if you're bothered.
*Exhaust pipe muffler:
Dent in rear exhause pipe muffler, from off roading, pretty sure it was a big stick / small log has flicked up. Cosmetic, no other damage just a nice round ding.
*Evap cannister:
That silly black evap cannister had a hole in the front of it when I picked it up, I used 100 mile tape and covered the front and it's been there ever since with no issues.
*Soft Top:
The JK will come with the SOFT TOP also, I've never put it on the car so assume everything is there... I had a soft top TJ and got over that, vowed to have a hard top only so never bothered putting it on!
*Slight scratches:
Being that it's a dark blue steely colour, there are some faint scratches running down the sides from vic bush. Cosmetic and I think they'd cut out. I've been VERY careful to avoid paint damage and keep it clean, wash it every fortnight or straight away after a hunt to keep it in good nic. It's a fantastic colour, everyone comments on it. Looks like the death star but NOT JUST ANOTHER BLACK JK!
*Tyres:
The maxxis bighorns are a good tyre, these still have a fair bit of tread left on them but you'll consider changing them out at some stage. Had all 4 wheels balanced about a month ago. No flat spots, no leaking, no punctures, no side wall damage - all good. The spare is still brand new.
ALL UP, this truck is amazing. It just doesn't suit what I'm doing right now. I'd like to keep it but hopefully it goes to a good home.
