Default Water pump and serpentine belt question

G'day,

Might be a stupid one, but will put it out there anyway.

Yesterday I was changing my rooted water pump and noticed that the direction of the fan assembly and water pump pulley would be turning the impeller of the pump (to me) in the wrong direction.

Is this normal? I changed it out with OEM pump and looks the same as mine.

I routed the serpentine belt the same as it came off, or at least I think I did. This is the same way I did mine. Pic is not mine though as my sticker came off years ago.

I drove to work and back today and temp gauge seemed fine, just though I'd check with you guys.

Cheers
Joe

Here is a pic of the OEM water pump on my '97 TJ - you will notice one of the blades has a 'R' stamped on it - this is for 'reverse direction'.

You must have a later model TJ - the belt route is different on my '97 because the aircon is high up on the drivers side of the engine.

the belt routing diagram is correct

the 4.0L engines have a reverse (counterclockwise) rotating pump with reverse or R imprinted on the inside of the viscous clutch and the pump

Thanks for that fellas.

Didn't notice any R imprinted on anything but compared the pumps side by side and looked identical. Mine is an 06 and has a plastic impeller also.

Cheers
Joe
