Default Front Fender liners - yes or no

I fitted a snorkel to my WG yesterday. Part of the process involved removing the rubber splash guard/liner from inside the front mudguard. I found an entire shovel-full of debris behind it. I see that as a rust initiation point.

I'm wondering, should I leave the splash guard off so I can regularly hose it out - and remove the other side also? There remains an inner guard to keep debris off the engine. I cannot see a purpose for the splash guard.

Thoughts?

I never ran them, they can be a PITA. With larger tyres they also tend to get ripen off anyway.

Also once you go over 4" of up travel you will need to relocate your washer bottle, so always found not having these made washing the engine bay and wheel arches a whole lot easier,

i currently have them off, but i will probably make some to go in the front of the fenders at some point, there is a bracket that holds the fender on that is really good at holding ALOT of mud even when you try avoiding the stuff :/

Thanks for the comments. Looks like my right side won't be getting put back on and the left will be coming off soon. At least this one I'll know to do in the yard rather than in the garage!

This exposes the back of the indicator side-repeater and its wire loop connection.

Nobody had any issues with this?

I tidied up all the loose wiring and connectors. Rerouted one or two loops also. Otherwise they were going to snag on the knobs of the Centrepedes.

I did screw some sections of flat rubber over the bigger openings heading towards the grill area. So I told a little lie, there are a couple of rubber patches of sorts to keep any big globs of mud out of the back of the bumper and grill.

Washer bottle removal leaves a big hole or two. I don't want thick clay building up in those voids. They're hard to pressure wash out.

I’ve not had a problem with them once I’d cut them to fit drilled some new holes so I could use the plugs And painted them with anti chip paint after the lift and bigger tyres no problem so far fingers crossed
