Trail-rated in the States means "looks good and can spend the morning on a forestry trail with a squirrel or two on the track". Big difference!

no that is touring rated trail rated is what real 4wd,s do rock, mud and big uphills
and steep down hills and river crossings

You tour in a patrol or landcruiser and do serious wheeling in a Jeep

those J&J guys are not the sort of businessmen that I will be dealing with. They gave me a price on the bullbar ($1795) and when I ring back a couple of days later they say its now $1995. That's not how you run a business IMHO.
So, yes, whilst I might be cutting off my nose to smite my face, I told them not to worry about it. I'd rather pay the insurance excess when I hit a roo than deal with these sorts of people.
I notice in 4wd action a couple of months ago there was an article on some custom bullbar makers in Leichardt (Sydney), so I might contact them.

Thanks Wanderer
Polished bar is now on & with tapered 80mm skirt + air vent slots for lower radiator I needed just minor mods to prior front 4mm steel bash plate. Tow hooks also remounted (horizontally) so as to maxmise approach angle (which is clearly better than initial version of J&J bar). These are in 2nd lot photos along with custom rock rails/sliders made by Hugh Dunbar of Hazzard Engineering SA : hazzardengineering@live.com.au

Rock rails & sliders have 3 steel bracing brackets each side with 7 bolts per bracket extending out to "chassis" rail. Can handle high lift jack if needed. Plastic sill panel moulds + front mud flaps to go back on shortly.

Bull Bar
I am getting my J @ J Bullbar fitted in a couple of weeks. Am having a dark grey powder coat that looks great on the dark grey of the Commander. They have been good to deal with and I think that the pricing is Ok. I have looked at the bar and it is as pretty as can be but is certainly functional. I am going west in December and hope the Roos appreciate it. Pics to follow when job is complete.
