Sounds fun!

Seriously, I'd like to slap the idiot that chose Torx head bolts for this thing.
Such a simple, although cramped job otherwise.
I am going to drop the turbo off, If i can reach the third bolt withough bleeding out.
That will them give me access to it all.

Definately not putting the torx bolts back in.

Not today now. Can get spanner onto last bolt for the turbo, but then no room to move it.
Can't remove headers, last bolt for them is obscured by the flow down to the turbo.

Have you tried taking the engine mount out and lifting the engine a bit to give more room?

Unless I can lift it by about 4",
i dont think it will help.

All it's height does is make it annoying. the PITA is position relative to other bits of the engine/turbo.
On most turbo cars I have seen, they stick the turbo at the bottom of the bay, or at the very top. This one sits dead in the middle, squeezed in between the mount and the manifold/s.
The thought has popped into my head to cost up getting complete exhaust manifold fabricated, but that is a bit exxy. Although it would allow shifting turbo higher/forward, giving more room/better flow.
Again, exxy. Cheap if it's a ricer though.

Update.
Ahahahaha.. well, kinda
12mm ring spanner, cut/grind it to a height of 3mm, and it then fits between stud and turbine housing.

Only trouble for me is that my only 12mm ring spanner is probably as old as I am, and burred. So any decent force and it just slips. Too late to buy a new one today. Tomorrow I cut/grind a new spanner for the job. If I cant find one that short anyway.

Spoke to Jeremy at Northern 4WD, who looked up the book and confirmed that the engine doesn't need to be lifted or pulled to do this job. Also the right track is to drop the turbo to get to the dump pipe.

Bought the new spanner.
these nuts are made of putty or something. Soft as all hell.
Any further attempts are just going to round off the bolt.
Same for the last one on the headers.

I give up. If I'm paying for the work, I'll keep it all stock.
