Righto, some updates.
Picked up an unused/boxed soft top from a 2015 JKU for $150. Unfortunately, I didn't realise the mounting brackets that attach to the rear roll bars was different and wasted heaps of time trying to figure our how the bloody thing fitted lol. Ended up ordering the brackets from the local Jeep dealer for $70, and holy shit, a new soft top is such a tight fit! I was hanging off the rear so my wife could attach the corners and rear window. Been a few weeks and it's loosened up a bit now, nice to be rocking a soft top.
Was keen to get some offroad lighting but decided against spending $500+ on roof mounting a light bar. Instead, I bought a 21" curved light bar (
https://www.ledlightco.com.au/curved...bination-beam/) and mounted to the bonnet with some brackets (
https://onestopjeepshop.com.au/make/...r-bracket.html), then wired to a Rugged Ridge a-pillar switch pod. Initial thoughts are that, the 21" bar isn't as awesomely bright as a roof mounted bar but the bonnet reflection/glare is so minimal. Hoping to get out bush this weekend and give it a more thorough test on the trails.
Slowly working through my servicing list. I've been consulting this forum, the
JK Replacement Parts List including error codes thread, and the JWORA Facebook group for heaps of good info.
Engine oil/filter - done. Used Penrite Full Synthetic 10W-40, comes in 6L which is perfect when using the Z37 Ryco oil filter.
Spark plugs/ignition leads - done. Picked up NGK spark plugs (LZTR5A-13) and Eagle ignition leads (part # E76862) for the replacements. This was a 30 min job that turned out to be a
massive bloody effort. Ignition lead #3 broke when I was pulling it off the spark plug, which caused me to bump the brake fluid reservoir with my hand, and the plastic had become brittle and cracked when I bumped it
Also, one of the NGK spark plugs was faulty and had to get a replacement for it.
OLD vs NEW - what a difference.
These are all original OEM spark plugs, as far as I know they've been in for 130,000kms. #4 actually broke a bit...
Socket extensions make this job
significantly easier!
Brake fluid - done because I had to put in a new brake fluid reservoir
Not sure what was used but the mechanic confirmed it was DOT3.
Manual transmission - will do this afternoon. I got a 2.5L bottle of Penrite Pro Gear Full Synthetic 75W-85, which states it meets MS-9224. Keen to see if it makes shifting any nicer.
