As I mentioned in another post I road tripped to Newcastle to have the HPF tune and intercooler muffler delete installed. This was scheduled to happen on the Monday before Easter at the HPF agent there. The install did not go to plan somehow the ECM was fried even though the tune installed correctly, they tried flashing it back to factory tune but still no joy.
I am in IT myself with a background in electronics and hardware repair. I must admit when I found out what had happened I was pi33ed but it was done and nothing would change that now.
The engine would start but run poorly and the starter was staying hung up.
The shop was very good as this could have turned ugly quickly. They arranged a courtesy car so I could get home to Tamworth that night. They wanted to try a few more things before they ordered a new ECU on Tuesday. After further diagnosis on Tuesday a new ECU was ordered around lunchtime and it arrived Wednesday afternoon from Jeep. Apparently FCA have quite a few in stock ex Sydney and Melbourne
The electronics in the ECU are all surface mounted components so almost any repairs will be impossible.
When the new ECU arrived it was installed and tested. The engine would start and run correctly. Shop (Adam) then arranged to have the Jeep towed to the Jeep dealer to have ECU setup to vehicle. On Thursday Adam contacted me stating all was good and vehicle was road tested. He then arranged to drive the Jeep back to Tamworth for me before the Easter weekend. I needed the car for the Easter weekend to tow the caravan on a trip to the coast. Adam went above and beyond to make this happen. I actually met them halfway between Tamworth and Newcastle in the end. (It is just over a 3 hour trip Tamworth to Newcastle.)
Adam the tech did not try and dodge what had happened but went about finding as quick a resolution as he could. The shop would have taken quite a hit on this job. He did not want to put the HPF tune on the new ECU until he could have all of his equipment tested. They actually have to remove circuit board from ECU heatsink enclosure. There is a special tool (jig) setup that locates to tracks on the ECU circuit board to apply power and communicate with the data bus to allow the tune to load.
