Question WH parking sensors and nudge bar

Our new WH came with a nudge bar at delivery. Because this interferes with the front parking sensors, the dealer said the only way to disable them is to use the switch to turn them off (front and rear).

I'd like to know if there is a way to disable just the front sensors and leave the rear sensors active?

Have you tried simply unplugging front sensors (behind bumper)?
Or maybe you could relocate them to avoid interference.

Unplugging might work if I can get in behind the bumper. Relocating not really an option, being a new car, don't want to make new holes etc. I was hoping that someone might know of a relay or something that controls the front separately from the back as I'd like the back sensors to be on but don't care about the front being off.

Hi, I just had a play with mine, WH Grand Cherokee front sensors that is . Try this and see what you find. I taped over the 2 front sensors that would be most affected with duct tape and had wifey move around the front with the car in fwd drive (well someone has to be guinea pig). The remaining two sensors with side worked perfectly. The warning lights and beeper worked fine in that they didn't scream that they were obstructed at all. All this makes sense to me and I'm going to do a bit more research. So there may be a very simple answer to our problems - duct tape!!! Regards Graham

I would have thought tape would make them go off all the time! Didn't think of that one.

Anyway, I ended up speaking to the dealer again and a couple of months ago they moved the wires from the two inner front sensors to work off the two outer ones. They charged me for it but seems to do the trick although now it seems that the two outer sensors are very sensitive, going off earlier than they did before . I'd have to get into another WH for comparison. But I'm happy as they can remain on all the time now.

Some more research I've done on the parking sensor issues suggests that with luck, they (Jeep) have used a decent parking sensor OEM build and the ultra sonic wave processor has been programmed to remove false alerts. That is, if in the event of heavy rain or certainly snow, the sensors may receive false signals in the form too rapid return of the ultra sonic signal and will filter these out. This may be possibly why taping those sensors interfered with by a nudge bar may just work.

Altering the wiring shouldn't have any effect on the systems sensitivity though. It does suggest that the processor isn't doing a signal count to check that all sensors are functioning though. I might do some more of my own testing on that front.

Regards Graham
