WK2 - HVAC recycle air mode
I often notice after getting in the car, starting and driving off the Recycle mode is OFF. I usually have this on, never turn it OFF as I hate the outside air option. It turns itself OFF maybe in every 10 engine starts. Not a biggy, maybe a bugger electrical unit or fault?
Anyone else have this problem?

The JKs do it every time you turn the car off. I'd say its normal.

I turn the recirc on when I drive dirt roads, a few weeks ago I pushed the button – it flashed a few times but wouldn’t stay on – what the? I tried it again a few days later and the light came on and stayed on (like a good little recirc light should). Don’t know what happed but I’m not sure it works anyway as I get dust in the car even with it on!
I’ve never noticed if it goes off by itself.

MY ford focus use to turn itself off after every engine power off, so I was kind of use to it. But with the WK2, I thought it was neat to stay on - although turns OFF itself every now and then.
You seem to be in a worse position though, I'd get it checked..

I believe it has to do with the outside air temp compared to the temp you have set on your HVAC.
If the outside temp is well above your set temp, recirc will stay on, if outside temp is close or the same as you have set it will cycle recirc on and off.
I can not say what happens if outside temp is well below your set temp as I live in Darwin and its not very often we get below 20c here

I'm getting very confused with this issue about fresh vs recirc. On every car I've ever had, I have made sure fresh was on all the time, especially when hitting gravel. My theory is that you need to be drawing air in, to keep the cabin slightly pressurised. Therefore, wherever dust is trying to get in, there is positive pressure keeping it out. This has always worked well for me.
The only time I change to recirc on gravel, is if I come across dust from a car in front, or when a car comes the other way. And then I will switch back to fresh as soon as I can.
My WK2 is always left on fresh because that is what I prefer. However I have noticed that every time I start the car, even though the recirc light is off, the AC is actually on recirc. I have to hit the button to light it up, then hit it again to turn recirc off.
Have a read of my other post re WK2 - dust inside.
Is there something different about the way the Jeep AC works? Maybe that, even though you are on recirc, some fresh air is still being drawn in?

The OP was not referring to dirt road travel, just the fact that they where having to turn their recirc on even though it was on the last time they drove the vehicle!.
Re dust getting in, if you read the owners manual, it states that the HVAC will switch between fresh to recirc and back again as the system deems necessary to achieve the temp set, whether you have it on fresh or recirc.
I also have a Laredo and have found dust egress into the cabin after driving dirt roads, I think it is coming in through the door skins past the trim.
Most vehicles have a plastic sheet, with reusable adhesive stuck on the inside of the door/hatch the interior trim then sits over this.
This plastic sheet seals the interior from the exterior and allows the doors etc to have drains in them to allow water out( dust can also get in).
I know this plastic sheet is missing from my rear hatch, and I suspect from my doors (I am yet to check behind my door trim as I want to have new trim clips in case some break when I remove the door trim to check).
I would be interested to hear from any one with a WK2 who has removed their door trim, if they had the plastic sheeting, and what model they have (Laredo, Limited or overland)
