Brake booster upgrade
Hey all,
I've got a 95 Cherokee sport. The brakes on it a pretty ordinary to say the least. I have no idea when pads, rotors, drums, fluid has been changed so I'll naturally start there.
What I'm wondering is I've seen on the US sites that there is apparently a simple swap that can be done with the brake booster and master cylinder that takes a single diaphragm booster to a twin diaphragm, giving much greater breaking force.
Has anyone in AUS done this? My booster does look like the single diaphragm one, as it doesn't seem as big as the one I've seen in pics. Are there any issues doing this on a RHD car? Any info and tips would be great.
Cheers,
Nick

Cheers for the reply AWG. Excuse my ignorance, but what is the VSMB 14 thread? I searched that on here but nothing came up

Hi,
What year is your XJ? 95 and above definitely came with the better brake booster. Not sure about the 94.
I have the Black Magic brake pads and new solid rotors from EBC. Probably the best brake upgrade you can do. See my thread called VSB14. I also fitted rear disc brakes which was easy enough.
So, check your booster and vacuum, check your front calipers, replace your pads with Black Magic, fit new rotors.. bed in as per instructions. Also, important to make sure your rear drums and working and adjusted properly. This can make a big difference to stopping power.
Cheers,

A part from a failed booster, I would be getting all other bits of the brakes in order before thinking about the changes you are looking at.
