Default Wk2 with DPF issues

Hi all just had the GC towed for the second time in 2 weeks both times for the same problem.

Emissions filter almost full drive at highway speeds. The thing that gets me is that this is accompanied by the throttle control light, limits to third gear and 60kmhr.

First time they told me software update on the trans and then drove it to clear the filter issue. I just had a service about a month ago and they also did a software update on the trans so am not happy that this was the problem to start with.

Has anyone had this happen and what was the final fix? I have researched a bit and it appears to have been a problem for a few others most fixed by a manual burn at the dealer.

Yeah i had it happen once too. The gear limiter is yhe car going into limp mode.

The dealership told me the dpf sensor needed to be recalibrated.

Once you filter is almost full and it goes into limp mode, they need to set the dpf to clean at least 2 maybe 3 times in a row to get all the shit out.

Then set the sensor, and that should be it... I have since purchased my own obd2 scan tool and purchased the jeep Chrysler settings.. i set my car to clean the dpf once a month.. ove only ever seen it come up once on the dash automatically... i just dont trust it..

Jeep really need to program in a dpf gauge to the dash software. Then you can monitor how you need to be driving.

To help the regeneration (cleaning) process, i moce to sports mode, and hold 4th gear when doing highway speeds.. revs harder sure, uses more fuel, but it clean the dpf out..

I personally plan to remove it once a solid removal kit becomes available.

Thanks djsmiles. What obd2 did you go with? Where do you get the settings from? I take it the obd2 lets you change when the dpf clean happens?

Penrite now have a DPF cleaner, Enviro + DPF Cleaner for blocked DPF's

How to Use

Add to tank prior to filling with fuel.
Add 375ml to 30 litres of diesel fuel for regeneration assist on 1st stage filter blockage (Warning Light).
For blockage prevention & maintenance, add 375ml for every 60 litres of diesel.
Recommended every 5,000 km and at every engine service period.
Can be used at each fill of fuel for maximum benefits if needed.
Product Benefits

Cleans blocked DPF's
Lowers DPF regeneration temperature
Improves fuel economy and reduces CO2 emissions
Visibly reduces smoke and opacity
Enhances water shedding, lubricity and stability
Cleans fuel injectors and improves combustion efficiency
Safe for use with SCR / DPF systems
Innovative solution backed by 200 worldwide patents
Minimizes unscheduled maintenance and operations costs
Less soot build up in oils can result in reduced maintenance and potentially longer drain intervals
Extends catalyst life

Manual burn @ dealer is a temp fix for the moment. Chrysler just released a information pack to dealers this month basically telling dealers to only fill the engine oil about 2-3mm UNDER the full mark as when the DPF regeneration process tries to come on, obviously the car will get very hot, oil expands, crankcase vapour generates etc so if it is over/on the max line, it will cancel the regen due to excessive pressure/vapour etc.

Thanks for the info guys. Will see what the dealer has to say about it this time but if it's just going to happen in another 2 weeks again I'm not going to be real happy about it.

There has been a long list of owners with this problem here:
http://www.jeepgarage.org/f190/is-dp...-71792-38.html

I don't understand why they would flash the trans and then drive it, that doesn't make any sense. There is a flash that helps with the problem, but they should have forced a manual regen. If they didn't manually regen, then it is no wonder it had the same problem again.

http://www.wk2jeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wk2_1801814d.pdf

There seem to have been multiple issues around the dpf, there are plenty of owners who have had the alert come up, and driven at highway speed, but the regen never completes. It seems to be a software issue (although that info from 'the one' could be a reason the regen is never completing).

Other owners have found there is a dead sensor (or sometimes a kink in the tube between the sensors that measure air pressure) which makes the system think the dpf is full when it isn't.

And another theory is that there is some kind of coating on the dpf that is interfering with the regen process.
