What's stopping you modifying your TJ? I'd probably stick with it unless you really needed 4 doors or deisel

Both great vehicles with their own capabilities & weaknesses.

JK's are heavier, wider, longer, and everything is electronic, so way more to potentially go wrong. Tjs are cheaper, easier to mod I reckon.
Yeah they have the older 4l straight six, but it will do 300,000ks and they are a nice torquey motor, but not especially efficient.

The earlier JK petrols are gutless and I've seen a few smokey ones with barely 100,000 on them.

Both have the same diffs, Dana 30 front and 44 rear, give or take.

Save the money on a vehicle upgrade and out it towards mods.

My 2011 jk is petrol but after putting on snorkel, exhaust, air intake and new chip it sorted out the gutless power and improved fuel dramatically an cost me around $3k

both good, both can be made to go anywhere offroad you choose, Jk has better road manners out of the box, and a higher price tag, as mentioned the tj is simpler, cheaper, and probably more fun to beat on.

id go a Jk for a daily, weekend warrior combo.
a tj for purely a weekend offroader.
