Default Servicing

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to check where everyone gets their KJ serviced or if they do it themselves.

I recently bought a KJ 2006 2.8 CRD with about 80k on her and want to make sure I can find someone who know what they are doing, but are not going to rip me off.
I am located in Wynnum West, Brisbane.

Thanks in Advance.

Steve

Its an easy engine to service yourself, just oil, filters, etc anyone can do. Transmission service is more complicated but its all been done by people here before, just do a search to find the threads.

BTW that's a pretty low kilometre CRD, good find. I'd stop the EGR bfore it gums up the intake anymore. If you have the original equipment turbo hoses replace them with Samco hoses or similiar. Read the CRD Sticky thread at the beginning of the KJ forum it has lots of info for you.

Thanks Glen, got me motivated last night and I cleaned the Boost Control Sensor (is this the same as the MAP sensor they talk about on LOST?)

As far as servicing goes it is heading for the 90k service in a couple of weeks. What would I need to change out for it to be serviced?
Oil (is there a good and bad option to go for? or is oil oil?)
Oil Filter
Air filter

You must find out if the timing belt has ever been changed. The recommended service interval for the timing belt is 100,000kms in Australia however its also expressed as five years or 100,000kms which evet occurs first. That rubber belt deteriourates over time. If it has not already been done then its a high priority - if it breaks you can damage the engine valve train $$$. It has been pretty common for people to sell the CRD as the timing belt change approaches, to avoid paying for it to be done. Do a search here for timing belt change info. Many have done it themselves but its not like changing the oil, you need to disassemble abit to get to it. It is not the belt you see on the front of the engine, it is inside the front.

Thanks Glen, Will have a look and check if its been done. Don't think so but will check the service book to see if I can see anything. Is there any other way of checking the belt?
