Smile CJ5 and CJ7 Chassis? Why different?

Hi guys I have heard that they Changed the Chassis for the CJ7 they Moved the springs and shocks outwards of the body away from the Chassis..??

Why is this?

Narrow track vs the wide track CJ7 (1979 and up) is what I presume you are asking about. 5's had a rep of flipping in the mid 70's and that was the beginning of the end for them. The wide track CJ7 came about because of it. On a wide track model the front shocks moved to a mount outside the frame to a bracket welded to the axle tube.

Thanks I was not aware of the Narrow Track and wide Track differences..

which chassis is better set up for off road work?

Does wide track mean offset spring hangers?

Um a narrow track and wide trac chassis mounts are the same. for similar years. There is some differencesof very early pre 70's cj's and latter cj's

The difference between a Cj7 and CJ5 is 10" wheel base and as such the chassis is longer on a cj7

The cj5's have a parallel chassis, the cj7's flare out at the back, may have been done to aid stability?
