Bob your post has made me realise that the bolts don't go right through. I now remember working from inside the rectangular formed section to tighten the fasteners. It was a bit of a PITA. I actually think we talked about how it would be better to have compression posts and bolt right through.

All that said, the plate (part 3) definitely prevents deformation of the surrounding metal layers, which would certainly help maintain the torque applied to the fastener.

If this is missing I'd be very cautious about using the system.

Part 3 definitely in place on both sides. Quite a lose fit when not torqued up. Had to lever these plates back up when re fitting bolts as it dropped about 6mm when I removed the two m16 bolts.

Another reason to turn bolts around and put nuts on outside. Wayyyy easier to torque up.

Gotcha Jay.

I don't get the hold up on the recall then. Tighten bolts... as you were. It was doesn't sound like the suggestion of a minor floorpan change is valid, as you would have noted that the fit wasn't tight.

Anyway, it's good that you're back on the road.

Cheers, Steve

I'm just gonna replace the spring washers with a Nord-Lock. Should solve the issue, and it's probably what FCA should do - not a high cost - just a little labour to replace.

Well seem to have the towbar recall sorted.

Car is going in to dealer next week to have towbar removed at no charge.

Auto Vehicle Accessories will visit dealer to fir Hayman Reese Towbar

FCA will refund original purchase price of towbar.

I have also asked for FCA to provide some sort of compensation for the inconvenience.

I will pay AVA

Will make small surplus to make up for inconvenience.

Hope this helps

I wonder how I get a refund for something that was included with my new vehicle? I pretty sure there isn’t a separate value on the receipt..
