Likewise, the panic is palpable!

Supposedly standard practice for previous Ram replacements has been pump only if the vehicle drives in, everything pump back if it's towed in.

Someone else posted saying they were quoted $14k to replace everything pump back due to feeling issues

In my limited experience if the pump craps out your towed as system is full of metal bits, if you manage to drive in usually just starting to wear and pressure loss. Again its not a Jeep thing, always amazes me that folk seem to have this thing that if its Jeep its only Jeep, fail to see that they are made up of a mix of parts and tech common to a lot of vehicles, fluids are just rebadged mixes etc.........

Some really great reading to while away cold days actually: https://www.drivingline.com/articles...42-bypass-kit/ ..a by pass kit for the CP4 pump fitted to the GM Powerstroke..... and have also read claims the US diesel being less dense than European diesel which the pump was designed for, interesting, I wonder how much truth in that and if ours is light weight or not ?? .............

Now if you want one for the spares box, here's where you go in Australia.... Denco Diesel, sign up your first born and good to go..........

Just read that article on the CP4 pump, incredible that Bosch didn't design in some simple arrangement to ensure the roller rocker lifter always faces the right way on the cam.
I guess the design considered the normal stresses on the roller would ensure it always faced the cam lobe, no skew sideways.
Like when you drag a jockey wheel it will usually align itself with the direction of movement rather than drag sideways...
Be interesting to watch this play out...

Looking to see if anyone has done the below.

Removed there plastic cover from the HPP & checked the metering valve for metal fragments on the screen?

Measured the supply pressure to the inlet of the fuel pump? (low pressure side?

Scan gauge only measures FRP (Fuel rail pressure).

Thanks,

I picked up My JGC today after having the engine replaced and noted the Z46 recall had not been actioned due to the unavailability of parts.

Here's hoping I don't have another engine failure.

Cheers,

Dont panic desertman....every diesel fitted Jeep with VM engine has the Z46 Recall outstanding....unsure which year the CP4 Pump was first used...but...its still being used...not only in Jeeps....some clever fella's on here will have the exact year and type the Pump was first used....mines a 11/12 biult MY13....RECALL Z46 is outstanding....and....'parts unavailable'...no surprise...would be 10's of thousands of Jeeps alone that need the recall done....how will Bosch (manufacturer of the pump) ever be able to supply that many pumps....and in reality...even if FCA replace the pump...your only getting another pump with the same biult in fault....winner ???....not in my books

Every so often I have a look around for info on the Bosch CP4 fuel pump drama and it seems BMW is claiming its the crappy US diesel fuel and so the NTHSA is having another look into what FCA and BMW are saying and what action may be taken.... don't laugh too hard when you read the bulletin ..... https://www.carcomplaints.com/news/2...upgraded.shtml

and

https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2023/04/...cles-affected/

It seems upgrade kits are available for the Bosch CP4 fitted to Powerstroke engines and BMW engines so maybe something for JGC and RAM VM's may turn up ....

With fuel quality being a possible cause and since Australia is supposed to have one of the dirtiest diesel fuels in the world, a bit of that relates to environmetal stuff like high sulphur content so maybe that has kept the devil away but also since our fuel gets handled multiple times in somewhat questionable containers changing the filters every service is probably a good idea...... mine get dumped every10K....
