Default Amazon says no!

Has anyone else tried to buy something on amazon, only to get almost to the end of the checkout process and cop a "sorry cannot ship to this address".
Or something similar to that ?

Yes. A year or 2 ago, when whingers like Gerry Harvey from Harvey Norman and others were complaining about loss of sales due to the Internet sales boom and the $1000 no sales tax thingy that Australia has re o/s internet purchases, the aunt gov got with internet sellers such as Amazon, ebay etc and they came to agreement that certain items would not be shipped by them to Australia. This was so as to provide an unlevel playing field for Oz retailers, which is in effect a cunning form of tariff protection for Oz retailers that stinks, I reckon. When I get a "can't ship" instruction from Amazon etc, I go direct to the retail site itself and don't then have the problem, if the retailer has not got an exclusive arrangement with the Amazons etc re o/s sales. In fact nowadays, I find that I rarely purchase items thru Amazon or eBay for this reason,,,, it is my form of protest against what they have done.

Ummmm...no, that's entirely incorrect.

Amazon will ship to Australian customers, I've bought heaps of stuff off them. The shopping cart system struggles sometimes; you just need to pick the country you are in and log in before you add anything to your cart.

If fact, I've used the Amazon checkout process to order stuff from other websites. I've got some replacement seatbelts coming from JC Whitney via Amazon, shipping direct to me.
